What I did this week (4 nov 2011)

  • Took another anthropology test which seemed to go ok.
  • Squeezed into the Canzani auditorium with at least 500 of my peers to watch James Gurney speak. Great stuff.
  • Was sorted into new ad teams for the entire rest of the semester and got kind of a bum deal.
  • Ran into M Stillion while walking on Grant Street and got really excited about that.
  • Did really bad acrylic painting of myself in illustration class.
  • Had to put away the raw celery I was trying to eat in science class because it was too loud and crunchy.
  • Let about half my ad class use my stapler, which added greatly to my self-esteem.
  • Made some headway with my new, underwhelming ad team. (Perhaps?)
  • Went to the drinking fountain during my team class and got distracted talking to Mrs. Tabler and missed the homework brief.

What I did this week (29 oct 2011)

  • Did virtually nothing in my photo class; spent a lot of time hanging out in Crane with Amanda and trying unsuccessfully to read my computer screen amid the blinding morning sunlight.
  • Failed miserably at inventing characters for my illustration class (but so did everyone else).
  • Wore a full-body spandex greenman costume at lunch with my friends so Jack could take my picture and pretend I was an autistic child.
  • Worked my brains out on team stuff. Did not practice my accordion nearly enough.
  • Just barely remembered to do a crossword puzzle for my anthropology class (which is still a pointless time suck).
  • Worked on my second ink wash piece for my figure drawing class, which is turning out even better than my first one.
  • Visited the art museum with my SMAC class of 6th and 7th graders, Derrick dressed as Darth Vader the whole time.
  • Spent 4.5 hours printing and mounting team stuff with Theresa and Colleen. And we are still friends.
  • Enjoyed some delicious pierogi that my dear friend Ian picked up for me from the North Market while I was stuck printing and mounting.

What I did this week (21 oct 2011)

  • Drew Kelly on blue paper with colored pencils.
  • Used a film scanner to digitize my negatives, which worked really well and pretty cool.
  • Went to the art museum with my photo class to “look at photography” but did not really see any.
  • Realized our latest team project is due in only two weeks and consequently went into high-gear.
  • Experimented with dip pens in illustration class. Used brown india ink for the first time.
  • Took a quiz on famous photographers and did very well. (It was easy.)
  • Did poorly on a chemistry quiz but pretty well on a chemistry test.
  • Met with Mr. Burleigh wednesday and thursday to talk about my ads and am still confused.
  • Drove downtown on friday for a special team meeting, where I sat in the Crane café and had a pot of pai mu tan and chatted about containers for several hours.

What I did this week (14 oct 2011)

  • Saw Nathan Greno, who is an alumnus, talk about making Tangled.
  • Wore new bright orange rain boots for the first time. Received generally positive feedback.
  • Did a chemistry lab thing in my science class and mixed vinegar with baking soda in test tubes.
  • Had an impromptu team meeting in Colleen’s top-floor dorm and spied on people with binoculars.
  • Got very good grades on finals for both my ad classes. Phew.
  • Worked really hard writing a silly paper about the Amish for my Anthropology class.
  • Went yarn shopping with Ian and Theresa and made a pit stop at Ian’s house, which was cool and weird.

What I did this week (6 oct 2011)

  • Participated in a figure drawing crit and ate Chips Ahoy and didn’t sing that Hold Steady song aloud the whole time.
  • Gave a presentation on Dorothea Lange in my photo class and apparently tripped over my words.
  • Finished up my ad team’s project and presented the final (and seemed to do ok with it).
  • Got sorted into new teams for the next project and ended up with Colleen again.
  • Took photos with pinhole cameras, which was surprisingly tedious but also surprisingly rewarding.
  • Hid in the doorway of the darkroom and scared people as they went in and out.
  • Tried to eat a pizza Lunchables in my science class and made a big mess.
  • Mourned and mourned and mourned the loss of Steve Jobs with Amanda, who is a lot like I am.
  • Enjoyed Mark Burleigh more than ever.
